“The Only Thing That Is Constant Is Change”
                                                                   – Heraclitus

During spring everything is changing, the trees are dressed in green leaves and colourful blossoms. But as recent weather shows spring can be tricky with all its changes and even a snowstorm can happen during April.

The very same is also true in our lives; sometimes changes come with blossoms and happiness, on another occasions there is the snowstrom that will break down your plans for the day or even the week. I’m sure you are already very familiar with these kind of feelings, however from my side I always loved those changes that were driven by me and not by some unknown circumstances.

Life in a mystery shopping company is also subject to some changes, as we help our clients to drive the changes to be able to provide better and better customer service. In order to grow, you need to change some things, stretch a bit further and that can be painful, but also gives a sense of newly-won freedom.

The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.”
                                                                       – H. P. Lovecraft

How to overcome fear?

  1. Stay involved: if you are curious, have great ideas, simply want to be a part of the change, or just want to avoid unfavourable surprises then stay involved as much as you can. In this way you will be a source of knowledge as well.
  2. Watch out for unrealistic expectations: this is one of the most dangerous aspects of changes, because even though everybody wants it to be for the best, sometimes without your contribution it won’t happen. You know your job or your situation better than anyone, so it’s up to you to stand up for yourself and not let yourself be overcome by expectation which are not realistic.
  3. Acknowledge and express your feelings: as we are all humans and changes effect us, the most natural thing is to discuss it with those who are driving these changes. However if it is your life we are talking about then you can always seek support from your friends and family.
  4. Stay positive: nothing good comes out if you only see the dark side of the changes, but with positive thoughts brings positive energy, which in turn brings positive change that can help you overcome your fear.

So, how comes this to mystery shopping?

If the shop you work in gets evaluated by some random people who don’t see your daily struggle and concerns, or how much you actually work to reach the targets, that can be really frustrating. You might feel that the management only wants to make you feel bad. However this is not the case. Mystery shopping on the other hand, can help the management to see where the issues are and prepare for example the appropriate training sessions for you.

Mystery shopping can also help the management to see where they need to implement changes in order to grow the business.
